Drama
Drama should offer all children the opportunity to improve their self-confidence as well as providing an outlet for their emotions, thoughts and creativity and all within a safe atmosphere. It should also allow children to work with others in achieving a set goal e.g. the school play. At the same time drama can help build children's communication skills and improve their speaking in public. These are aspects that are vital for children in making them feel confident in the 'outside' world.
At Tavistock and Summerhill drama is taught in English lessons for at least one period a week. The children also have opportunities to perform in: school plays, speaking parts within musicals, poetry recitals and assemblies.
