In geography we aim to create a love of learning about different places and an interest in how places and people are connected and how they are changing. We have an enquiry approach which encourages learning by asking questions: Where is this? What is it like to live there? How did the landscape get like that? Why do so many people live there?
We develop geographical skills of analysis to investigate places such as Kenya, Brazil and Japan and topics such as the weather, environmental issues, sustainable development, rivers, coasts, flooding, rainforests, earthquakes and volcanoes. Throughout the syllabus a high value is placed on map work.
We aim to build on what pupils already know and to equip them to think for themselves about geographical issues. This helps pupils think about their own place in the world in terms of their links with and responsibilities to other people and our planet.
