Music is a thriving department at Tavistock and Summerhill. The children have specialist music teaching from Reception and all children begin the recorder in Year 2.
About 70% of the children take instrumental lessons and some children play more than one instrument. A wide variety of instruments is offered, including piano, flute, clarinet, saxophone, guitar, singing, brass and drums.
It is important to us to help the community so we perform locally, entertaining the elderly and, at Christmas, we sing carols at Haywards Heath Station in aid of Leukaemia Research.
The children at Tavistock and Summerhill enjoy all aspects of the music curriculum including Listening, Composing and Performing. The school as a whole participates in two concerts a year, one at Christmas in Lindfield Parish Church and one in the summer, which takes place in our beautiful walled garden.
