The Religious Studies Department aims to help the pupils to explore their own ideas of spirituality, to understand the spirituality and core values of others and to develop an understanding of contemporary issues such as jealousy, friendship, sacrifice and the environment.
The core of the programme is a study of Bible stories. In each Year pupils focus on stories from the Old and New Testaments and look for comparisons in their own lives. They also look at celebrations and rites of passage in all the major religions. In Years 7 & 8 the syllabus encourages the study of topics in more depth and includes the chance to discuss more adult moral concepts.
The school also runs an active assembly programme which invites speakers from all different faiths to come in to school to talk about their beliefs, customs and cultures to give the children a greater awareness and understanding of the world around us.
