Match Reports - Week 3
1st Football v Lancing Prep
The team started the game well demonstrating a solid defence and were unfortunate to go behind. A miscommunication resulted in the first goal for Lancing and from that moment on the tide turned in the opposition's favour. A Henry Smethurst rocket from five yards, that nearly took the posts out of the ground, and a wonder goal from Oliver Moors from the halfway line, were the highlights of the game.
Ollie Moors - scorer of goal of the week.
Colts 'A' Football v Lancing Prep 'A'
The team found the match physically challenging and this proved to be the deciding factor in the game. Our boys were easily knocked off the ball when in possession and found it hard to get a grip on the game. Better luck next week boys.
Colts 'B' Football v Lancing Prep 'B'
An excellent display from the team, however, they were unlucky to lose the match 2-0. Some confident performances from the team and a good defence limited the number of goals and opporutnities from the opposition. A good start to build upon.
Under 9's Football v Lancing Prep
Going behind against a strong Lancing team brought out the best in the Under 9's. 3-0 down at the half, the boys showed great determination playing up a steep slope in the second half and only conceded a late score. The team have some skilful players and clearly have great determination so this should be a good season for them.
Under 8's Football v Lancing Prep
The Under 8 football team put on a fine, energetic performance away at their Lancing College Prep counterparts to win narrowly by two goals to one. A close first half saw William Buchanan play superbly in goal to keep the home team at bay, but it was a close thing. George Rodriguez managed to find good positions in attack but the match was still goalless at half time. It took a dazzling run from Harry Rienecker-Found to break the deadlock. Harry then doubled our advantage with a powerful strike from inside the box. A late goal from Lancing made the end of the game tense but excellent defending from ALex Fitzsimons saw the team through to a fine win.
1st Netball v Fonthill Lodge
In the first half the team played well managing to lead for the first quarter, but Fonthill came back strongly and took the lead. In the second half Fonthill kept their lead and despite Tavistock scoring some more points Fonthill won the game 16-8.
Under 9's Netball v Skippers Hill
The Under 9 girls made the long trip to Skippers Hill to play a young team made up mostly of Under 8's who had not been playing the game for very long. Both teams had a good skills session before the match, working on catching, passing and footwork. In the game itself, Tilly Robson marked the opposition's goal-attack closely, Laura Tucker managed to get free and into good positions regularly and the team passed the ball very well indeed, resulting in a pleasing 5-0.
Under 8's Netball v Fonthill Lodge
Tavistock and Summerhill 1 - 1 Fonthill lodge
The girls were very excited (and a bit nervous) before their first ever netball match but they started brilliantly with Effie scoring a goal in the first quarter. Lucy, as goal defence, was very strong and Tia had a good game as centre and the 2 of them, along with Effie, put together some very good passing movements supported by Lauren, Emily, Sophie, Connie and Amy.
Fonthill had only 6 U8's and the U9's they bought were very tall but Amy as GS got the hang of nipping in front of the tall GK marking her and was unlucky not to score. They equalised in the 2nd quarter after our early domination yet we came back again in the 3rd quarter with lots of shots on goal, and we were desperately unlucky that they didn't go in. In the 4th quarter Fonthill were unlucky not to score and a draw was probably a fair result. The girls' passing was good and they worked hard at getting free. Defending and marking still need some work but this was a very pleasing first game. Well done girls!
