Match Reports - Week 5

1st Football v Hurstpierpoint

We started off really well. Daniel Brooks was yet again good in defence. Max Bendall also played well clearing the ball on numerous occasions. The team managed to get lots of shots in, however, Hurst were too strong and scored before half time and twice in the second half. Better luck next time. (Words by Oliver Moors)

Colts v Hurstpierpoint

An excellent performance from the Colts rewarded them with their first victory of the season. The defence was the basis for the victory with Luke Neill, Ewan Borland and Max Djuric performing exceptionally. They didn't give the opposition time on the ball and tackled superbly. Josh Curling scored a hat trick which included two calmly finished goals, and a third with a deft flick using the outside of the foot. Well done team.

Under 9's v Hurstpierpoint

We won our first game of the season in a great game at Hurst. In the first half Edward Saunders and Theo Van Vliet passed the ball well and we nearly scored, but I was denied by the keeper and the post. In the second half Tavistock kept the ball well but couldn't manage to score until Charles Douglas scored a fantastic goal right at the end. (Words by Darius Dosieah)

Under 8's v Hurstpierpoint

The team played very well with Harry Rienecker-Found performing particularly well. Max Lanning opened the scoring but Hurst equalised soon after. The team began playing very well in the second half and George Rodriguez scored to secure a 2-1 victory. Well done boys.

1st Hockey v Great Walstead

In the first half Great Walstead managed to score first, but we soon equalised. Unfortunately they managed to get another goal before half time. In the second half they managed to score four more goals and we only managed two, making the end score 6-3. (Words by Francesca Jackson)

Under 9/10 Hockey v Great Walstead

Match 1 - We started well with everyone tackling brilliantly. We managed to keep the ball away from their goal but unfortunately we didn't get a goal in. There was too much bunching and the dusty pitch didn't help. The game finished 0-0.

Match 2 - We made use of the space more and Tilly scored a well aimed shot. We did well with tackling but they got a goal in. The end score was 1-1 and we had more fun with a shooting contest at the end, which we won 1-0.

Under 8 Hockey v Copthorne

The result of 8-0 didn't reflect how hard the girls worked and rallied to try and score a few and unfortunately, elusive goals. At this stage special mention could be made to Effie, Lucy and Tia who very energetically kept intercepting passes to keep the other team at bay. Because we needed some height in defence and she had been largely redundant in the shooting 'D' we changed Effie to Goal Defence in the last quarter which limited a few more goals from the opposition. The game served as good practice for our girls, they understand that they need to work on spacing and positional play which will stand them in good stead for future games.
