MATCH REPORTS - WEEK 8

The fixtures were arranged to be mixed hockey matches against Ardingly. These were our first mixed hockey matches of the season and I want to congratulate all of the players who did themselves and the school proud with their performances.

Tavistock and Summerhill

1st Hockey v Ardingly

In the first match we played well against a stronger team. During the first half they scored three goals despite some brilliant play by all of the team. After half time we improved and managed to prevent Ardingly from scoring again. The end score was 3-0. In the second match we swapped the team and continued to play extremely well. Battling in midfield for most of the time neither team managed to score. The second half of this match was once again an improvement. We were trailing 1-0 up until the final two minutes, when Freddie scored and amazing goal to level the scores, 1-1. Considering we have never played together as a team before this was a very good performance.(Words by Elinor Haskew)

Colts Hockey v Ardingly

Our first match of the season, against Ardingly...was awesome! We strode out like warriors onto the gleaming Astroturf pitch, but the opposition soon realized what novices we were because our goalie had his pads on upside down and someone turned up with their tennis racket...only joking! Actually the team played brilliantly for their first match and although we were beaten there was some great tackling, good passing, lots of energetic running and we know we can only get better! We played a second match against another Ardingly team who were fresh on the pitch while we were whacked! They played a more aggressive game - which they won - but it was a great experience. Under 9 Hockey v Ardingly

We started off really powerfully. Chris was really good in defence; he kept blocking the goal. Edward was brilliant at diving for the ball in defence too. Laura was very good at finding spaces and dribbling. Sophie was exceptionally good at attacking. Tilly was powerful throughout the match. Everyone tried really really hard in the usual Tavi way even though the score was 3-0 to Ardingly. In my eyes the player of the match was...wait for it...Everyone! (Words by Jasmin King)

Under 8's v Ardingly

As it was such a cold day we played indoors. It was a very close match against a team of all boys. In the first half we were very close to scoring but missed. In the second half Ardingly scored a goal. We played really well but we were unlucky not to score. The final score was 1-0 to Ardingly. Better luck next time Tavi. (Words by Tia Homer)
