Bignor Roman Villa
Yr3 enjoyed a wonderful trip to Bignor Roman Villa on the Friday before half term. Pupils were shown the hypocaust (central heating) system and the wonderful mosaics which, combined with our host's inexhaustible knowledge, allowed everyone to get a feeling of what it was like to be a Roman.
In the afternoon the children were able to make their own mosaics and spin wool fibres into yarn. Some even had a go at dressing up in Roman tunics (see below). We were also given the chance to examine various artefacts and learn in more detail about the similarities and differences between our way of life and theirs. The day was very informative, bringing Roman life to life, and was immensely enjoyed by all.
