U8 Rounders Week 1
Tavistock entered this match with a player fewer than Handcross due to illness, however you wouldn't have known it in the first innings! We lost the toss and went into bat first. It was most of the girls first proper rounders match and they made an excellent start scoring 5 rounders - many whole ones. Fielding next and Tilly in the bowler's square did a terrific job of getting the ball quickly and holding it up so Handcross stopped at first post and missed out on several half rounders. Millie was kept busy on 1st post and Laura on 2nd and Sophie did a great job as bat stop. At half time it was 5-3 to us. The 2nd Innings came and we went in to bat - Handcross were much more switched on now with their fielding and got a couple of our girls out. We scored 3 rounders. We swapped to fielding again and Tilly took a terrific catch. However their batting was much better this time and they ran faster from the batting square, enabling them to sneak several half rounders. The final score was 8-8 and considering we had a fielder fewer I think a very creditable performance for their first game. Well done girls!
