It is a place where children can grow up in a friendly, caring environment, where they can enjoy their time at school in a stimulating and challenging atmosphere and where they can prepare for all of the challenges that await them in life with confidence. It is a school with a warm family atmosphere which also provides academic excellence.
Our Nursery provides a wonderful start to the children's learning. The Pre-Prep is housed in the beautiful 'walled garden' and Yr2 resides in recently completed, purpose-built classrooms.
Tavistock and Summerhill is also a school with a strong academic record at scholarships, Common Entrance and Key Stage 2 SATS levels. This year our Year 6 pupils achieved at least double the national average level 5 passes. 100% of pupils go on to their first choice senior school and over two thirds of pupils who stayed to Year 8 attained scholarship to their senior schools. These are truly impressive results, so not only are we rightly proud of the way our pupils conduct themselves, we are also proud of the way they perform in the exam room.
But the school seeks to stimulate the love of learning in pupils so that they want to learn for themselves, not for the sake of passing exams. Teachers value the children as individuals and seek to help them to find their best-selves. The school encourages children to behave with consideration, kindness and thoughtfulness. It seeks to give everyone the opportunity to find out for themselves what they can achieve in an environment where they are happy, well cared for and, most importantly, where they care for each other.
